How this calculator works
- The class figures. The FCA's FSCS levy calculation notes for 2026/27 give the LDII (CLII-1) class's specific costs of £25,863,622 and compensation costs of £49,045,469 over a total tariff base of £12,640,387,723 (printed as £12,640,381,723 in the compensation line; the calculator uses each as printed). With the FCA's own example inputs it returns the FCA's own answer: a net FSCS levy of £2,063.30. (FCA: FSCS levy calculation notes, 2026/27 rates)
- The base costs levy. The base costs are shared in proportion to your FCA regulatory costs: £452,840 over £32,859,348 of A000 minimum fees, £1,388,453 over £110,081,523 of A.13 fees, and £352,626 over £26,305,512 of AP00 fees, as the same notes set out. (FCA: FSCS levy calculation notes, 2026/27 rates)
- How a share is worked out. FEES 6.5: a firm's share of a class's compensation costs is its tariff base as a proportion of the class's total tariff base. (FCA Handbook FEES 6.5: compensation costs)
- One class only. The calculator covers the Life Distribution and Investment Intermediation class, the class most advice firms pay into. A firm in General Insurance Distribution, Home Finance Intermediation, Investment Provision or another class has its own figures, which the calculator does not apply. (FSCS: levy information and the retail pool)
- Before discounts and deductions. The figure is the FSCS levy on the FCA's method before any minimum-fee arrangements, invoicing adjustments or a later interim levy. Your FCA invoice is the figure you pay.
Why the limits matter
A class's limit caps what its firms pay for its own failures in one year. Provider contributions, about 25% of the levies for the intermediation classes since 1 April 2019, are counted inside the limit.
